A Fun Year in Kindergarten

Matthew's teacher Mrs. Bowens and Matthew on the day of their end of year program. They sang songs in the gym with all the other Kindergarten classes and we came to the class afterwards to visit and collect their things. Matthew's teacher was great and I think I liked her even more because she just loved Matthew. She would tell me all the time how sweet and good and wonderful he was. The first week of 1st grade I ran into her at school and she told me how Matthew walked down to her classroom to show her something he wrote and drew. She said he was so proud to show her and she told him she wanted him to come back to her class because she missed him. The room Mom was great and gave us all a cd with pictures of our kids so these are some she took throughout the year.
Matthew got 1st place for his class in AR (accelerated reader). They didn't do much of it in Kindergarten and I didn't really know about it until the last month Matthew kept telling me he wanted to do it. So either way he was proud to get it. This year we will be doing it a lot more. They take quizzes on the books they read to see how they are comprehending what they read. Towards the end of the year Matthew took the big achievement tests and they just gave us back their report. He did awesome and got above average in everything compared to the other kids in the nation. 96 in total reading, 98 in math, 93 in listening, and 94 in basic battery. He is coming along with reading but it is still a battle a lot of the time to get him to do it. I think if he can get a little better and get to reading books that are actually really fun instead of easy readers that he will enjoy it more. He has always loved having me read to him; he could listen to that all day. He is a stubborn one and really only wants to do what he wants to do :) We love him though and he is doing well.

Matthew and a girl from his class got to announce the end of school program. They said "Welcome to our Kindergarten Celebration!"

Matthew had a great class and made some really good friends. With 5 classes though he only has two kids from Kindergarten in his 1st grade class this year. He is excited when he sees his best buddies at recess or PE sometimes.
